New Way of Making Ice Cream
This past weekend was Easter weekend. Ed and I went to Kentucky. We left Alabama on Thursday afternoon and got to Kentucky around 6 p.m. We called Luke and met him in Elizabethtown at Mr. Gatti's for supper...yum!!! Friday morning Ed and I went to Lowes and Home Depot to get some supplies to work around the house and get some wood so Ed and Luke could work on Luke's new trailer he got to haul behind his car. Which after finishing, Luke was trying to find any excuse he could to find a reason to use that trailer, he loves it. Friday afternoon, Luke and Ed worked on the trailer and I went over to a close friend's house, Barb, who just became a grandma for the first time, so I could meet her new grandson, Gavin. He is only 2 weeks old and he is adorable. I sat and rocked him for two hours, I loved it. Friday evening we had homemade quesdillas for supper, I really think it took longer to make them and clean up afterwards than it did to eat them but they were good and everyone enjoyed them so that made the work worth it. Saturday morning Ed worked on his take home test and I went outside to start pulling a few weeds and working in the yard. It wasn't long and Ed got to a good stopping point on his test and joined me outside. We worked together and got the yard mowed and new outside lights put up by the garage. Our yard looks so nice after it is mowed.
Saturday evening after dinner of meatloaf, baked sweet potatoes, and spinach we made doughnuts. Yummy....powdered sugar, chocolate iced with sprinkles, and glazed with a cup of coffee.
Sunday morning, Easter Sunday, came very early. Up at 5:45 a.m. to get ready for sunrise service. It was a great service. It was at Mt. Zion Baptist. Our choir did a great job with the special music and Bro. Dave preached a very good sermon. It was a great way to celebrate our risen Savior. After the service we came home and I started getting dinner ready. We had ham, boiled potates, and green beans. Then we had the idea...HOMEMADE ICE CREAM!!! Luke and Jackie headed to the store to get the ingredients...milk, heavy whipping cream, cookies, sugar, etc. They got back we mixed the ingredients put it in the ice cream maker, plugged it in and we heard, whirrrr, nothing....that was it...we heard nothing. Oh brother...now what. All those ingredients and what no ice cream???? I told Luke to take the motor downstairs dad might be able to fix it, he is good at that. Well it wasn't long and Luke came back upstairs no luck...now what??? We all started thinking, how can we still make ice cream then Ed had an idea....a drill. Here are the pics:
We had to take turns because holding that drill for 40 minutes can make your arm tired but it worked...GREAT IDEA MR. ED HAMLIN! We had some delicious Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. After an ice cream for the road, Ed and I headed back to Alabama for two more weeks and then home to Columbus, Georgia.
We had a wonderful Easter weekend. I heard a friend say this about Easter and thought it was very good, "Silly rabbit, Easter is for Jesus." For He is risen, He is risen indeed.
